Chinese Character of the Day – Bu
不 – Bù
I do like this character and you hear it a lot when people are expressing things negatively like when they say something is impossible and the like. You also hear it when they say “I am sorry” (Dui bu qi). Bu in and of itself is a negative particle. Got to love grammar and structure. We get particles, participles, tenses, etc. How anyone can keep them straight in any language is beyond me (and believe it or not I was an English writing major in college).
So our character of the day that I can actually recognize and pick out is 不 (bu) and our phrase of the day using that character is 對不起 (dui bu qi/ I am sorry). Mainly because that is one I can actually spell out in pinyin.
