With the success of IRIS, comes Athena slated to begin production later this summer. So far, the confirmed cast of this drama are actors Jung Woo Sung (as agent Lee Jeong Woo) and Cha Seung Woo (terrorist leader Son Hyuk). There are many rumors circulating about other big name cast members, but nothing has been confirmed about who else is joining the cast.

The plot of ATHENA is to revolve around stopping terrorists from hurting South Korea and the rest of the world, much like IRIS. However, ATHENA is NOT a sequel to popular kdrama IRIS. It is a spin-off inspired by IRIS. What’s the big deal? There is actually a sequel to IRIS in the works that has nothing to do with ATHENA and is said to be bringing back Lee Byung Hun and Kim Tae Hee as the leads slated to appear in 2011.

This should make fans of IRIS and Lee Byung Hun happy. I know I am. I like Lee Byung Hun from his acting in American movie GI Joe to his acting in IRIS. On another note, it has been rumored that Lee’s character in GI Joe was so popular that they are bringing him back for the sequel (as his character was killed by Snake Eyes, you have to wonder how that is possible, but you know the movies).
