Asian Drama Streaming Updates – August 25, 2015

No new series for Crunchyroll this week. Nope, nope. No new series on DramaFever either. They have, however, added Chinese movie My Kingdom which stars Wu Chun (formerly of Fahrenheit) and Han Geng (formerly of Super Junior). This is a story of how two sworn brothers become enemies. Oh…and they are Chinese opera performers to boot. This wasn’t a bad movie, but I don’t think it was one I was very fond of either. The brotherly bond between Wu Chun and Han Geng was believable, though, so that’s a plus.

Hulu has now added DramaFever titles Chuno, Poseidon, and The Virtual Bride. Oh and after adding anime ItaKiss and then taking it down only a day or two later, Hulu now has the anime version of Itzura na Kiss once more!ItaKissNetflix adds The Kid With the Golden Arm in which a man gathers a ragtag group to help him guard a shipment of cold; Heroes of the East in which a Chinese man marries a Japanese woman only to have marital bliss placed in jeopardy by conflicting martial arts styles; Disciples of the 36th Chamber in which a Shaolin monk returns to protect a hero with a penchant for trouble; and Executioners from Shaolin sees a rebel seeking revenge against the Manchu army and an evil priest who destroyed a Shaolin temple.

Well…it’s a regular Shaolin explosion of movies on Netflix. Also added is Five Shaolin Masters in which five martial arts students train to master their craft to get revenge on the Manchu army who attacked their temple; Justice, My Foot in which a sickly lawyer believes he’s cursed and goes to give up on his practice until he meets a widow accused of murder; and popular actors Leslie Cheung and Maggie Cheung’s Behind the Yellow Line about a woman having an affair with a married man who falls for a civil servant with determined admirer of his own; and Cross features Simon Yam, Nick Cheung, and Kai Chi Liu and focuses on a man whose ill wife killed herself leading him to help those who want to kill themselves but are too afraid.

In Japanese movies, Netflix adds Gun Woman starring Asami, Kairi Narita, and Matthew Miller. The movie centers on a brilliant and twisted doctor bent on revenge who takes a street prostitute and brutally (and surgically) turns her into the perfect assassin.

Ah, besides saying they are doing away with their premium model, Soompi TV has now been acquired by Viki! First it was part of Crunchyroll before it became a part of Soompi and now it’s merging with Viki? Crazy. Viki has now added newly airing Korean dramas I Have a Lover and All About My Mom. The former is a drama in which a twin sister ends up assuming her twin’s life after losing her memories and falls for her husband. Crazy, ne? The latter is a family drama featuring a strong matriarch and the struggles of her children and husband.

And that’s all folks.

  • Cross and Gun Woman sound really good! And yeah, Soompi TV getting merged again and again is pretty crazy!
