30 Day Asian Drama Challenge – Day 11
I won’t lie. I wasn’t 100% certain what they meant by opening. Opening song? Or opening video? Or both…? Is there a difference? Well…I might like an opening song more than an opening video and vice versa.
Day 11: Your favorite drama opening?
Hmm. Another toughy. I am one who will fast-forward openings (especially if I’ve seen them once) just to get to the drama. That being said, I really did like the opening of Flower Boy Next Door even if I kind of fell out of love with it around episode 10 or 12. It’s fairly typical for a Korean drama opening sequence, but for some reason, I was charmed by it.
However, I think my favorite drama opening might just be the opening from Thai drama Love Never Dies. Of course, I can’t find the actual opening sequence, but I really love Dome’s songs from the drama, in particular the opening one “Love You Forever”:
Tied with the opening of Thai drama Ruk Pathiharn. The song’s English translated title is roughly “There is no Place for Fear in Love” by Instinct. This drama had me falling in love with this song completely.
Ah…but then again…there’s the opening from Japanese dramas Innocent Love, Last Friends, and, of course, Hana Yori Dango. Do you know they are all by the totally awesome Utada Hikaru? “Eternally” “Prisoner of Love” & “Flavor of Life.” Oh…and the opening from Taiwanese drama Ying Ye 3 Jia 1 was pretty awesome, too. As is the openings for Chinese dramas Gong and Bu Bu Jing Xin. Okay. I give. I can’t choose.
I still have to watch Flower Boys Next Door – is it good?
I haven’t finished the last 4 episodes. It had its moments but wasn’t as good as the previous two.
ahhh yeah I can see that. Flower Boy Ramyun Shop is my favourite…those kimchi kisses 😛
Mine, too despite the slightly less than satisfactory ending.
For me, the only Drama theme opening that really left an impact and still does today is Oh Dal Ja, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvlSVMYiUuI.
The drawings used for each episode (like the teddy bears in Gong) was so nice in content and represented so much of my own life at the time (juggling Relationships, Money, a new Career, Friends), no other opening has done that since. Hell, I would wake up and put on the Theme Song as I got dressed for work.
Thank you Nee, Nee and redbeanmochi. I am loving the questions. It’s not only challenging but taking me back to so much I’ve forgotten. I am so glad I’m taking this challenge.
No problem! 🙂 I’ve found it’s a great way to reminisce about old dramas. Sometimes you forget about the classics
