30 Day Asian Drama Challenge – Day 7
Ah, again, when it comes to favorites…it’s really so hard to choose.
Day 7: Your favorite Japanese Drama?
Hmm, what do I consider my FAVORITE Japanese drama? Should I say HanDan again? But…while it’s my gateway and one of the dramas I can watch over and over again without being bored…I’m not sure it’s my favorite Japanese drama of all time to date.
Let me see…there was that silly little drama Atashinchi no Danshi that holds a special place in my heart along with Horikta Maki’s Innocent Love…but they don’t call out “favorite.” Maybe Hana Kimi…
If I think hard, I think it might be a toss up between two dramas based on a mangas. 😛 The first being BLOODY MONDAY which introduced me to the awesomeness of the younger actor (he’s only 5 years younger than I am) Miura Haruma. LOVED him as Falcon and who can forget the eccentric terrorist J as portrayed by Narimiya Hiroki? And then we have LIAR GAME starring Matsuda Shota and Toda Erika which was really excellent.
Nope, I’ll go with a drama from last season. As of now, my favorite Japanese drama is Oguri Shun’s and Ishihara Satomi’s Rich Man, Poor Woman. The chemistry between the leads, the plot, kind of going behind the scenes at an IT company…it wasn’t all that bad. Sure there was some rather poor character development and some agonizing parts to the plot, but I was thoroughly enamored with this drama and fell hard for the characters…well…not all of them, but most of them.
I kept on seeing gifs of Rich Man Poor Woman on Tumblr, and they never really made me want to watch it. It looked too serious. But maybe i should add it to my To Watch list?
Serious? It’s actually more silly than serious at times. Sure there are some serious elements, but there’s a lot of fun in there as well, especially between the Oguri and Ishihara and how he likes to tease her.
It’s definitely worth watching.
I stumbled upon your blog and started watching Last Cinderella due to your recaps (thank you, I am loving it so far).
As for the best Japanese drama, I will have to say Buzzer Beat is my number one, followed by a very close second with Unubore Deka (every episode is a ROFL). If this was four years ago I would have picked anything with Kimura Takuya in it (his early works), he was my go to for Japanese Drama with Long Vacation, Pride (I still have the theme song suck in my head), Engine, etc . . . the list goes on.
This seems like fun, so I want to take the challenge with you.
Glad my recaps inspired you to start watching Last Cinderella!
I haven’t tried Buzzer Beat yet. Or maybe I sampled it and put off watching it…hard to remember. I did have a Yamapi phase awhile back 😛 I’ve heard good things about Unobre Deka—it’s on my to watch list. And Kimu Taku…yeah. He’s got some great dramas out there.
I think the answers to these questions will always change depending on when and what you are watching. I’m happy that you will be taking the challenge with me 🙂
Lol NeeNee, you’re doing a pretty good job of getting people into this challenge, ha ha. I also liked Buzzer Beat, although it was a bit hit & miss. Sweet though.
I know, I was surprised. And it’s all thanks to me discovering this challenge at redbeanmochi’s Give Me Dramas. 😛 I’m happy others are doing it, too.
Bloody Monday, HYD, Hana Kimi… How do you pick between them all!? =O
I’m still veeery behind on my Jdramas, but *most* of the ones I’ve liked.. I’ve loved. Rich Man Poor Woman was my first sort-of watch as it aired Jdrama. Meaning, I jumped on the bandwagon a few weeks from the end and got to marathon most of it, and then wait for the last eps. Torture, just torture. Overall, I don’t think it was the best I’ve scene, but I got such warm fuzzy feelings from it, that none of that mattered.
