Ikemen desu ne Episode 7 Recap
The series is winding down and heading towards its conclusion with things getting even more complicated now that Miko’s secret is revealed to all members. There is still a lot more to be discovered – especially in regards to Ren’s mom’s obsession with the finding the twins.
Anywho, this episode picks up with Shu rushing to embrace Miko. Ren is less than thrilled to see this and even less thrilled to hear Shu pronounce that Miko is his girlfriend. Shu then states that he doesn’t want anyone to see his girlfriend’s face as he wants her out of the public eye. Ren then takes his jacket off and covers Miko’s head with it. Shu then pushes through the crowd to escape with Miko’s identity covered for now. On the way out, in the crush of reporters, Miko’s pin falls off and is crushed underfoot.
After everyone leaves, Yuki is still reeling. What just happened? The upset NANA stands up and wonders how things could have turned out like that. Ren looks back at her and asks if it was all her doing. NANA doesn’t admit to it, but Ren pretty much knows now. He then says if that is the case, then their agreement is over. NANA says that she absolutely refuses to break up with him, but what power she had over Ren is slowly breaking. Yuki comes down and asks what agreement, but Ren just walks out after giving NANA his signature glare with Yuki running after him.
Shu gets Miko safely into a room where she apologizes for deceiving him all of this time. Shu then says how he is shocked and angry and didn’t know at all [if he actually confessed that he knew the truth, he might have stood a chance against Ren]. Shu then says he didn’t mean any of that since he knows how hard Miko has worked and suffered, so her being a girl doesn’t matter.
Ren and Yuki then come in and Ren apologizes saying that he knew the truth all along. Shu says that he doesn’t care about Miko’s sex and Ren turns to Yuki. Yuki at first looks angry about Mio really being Miko, but he then flashes his custom big smile and says that he is so happy that Miko is actually a girl. Of course! This means he isn’t gay. Needless to say, his overwhelming happiness at this shocks everyone.
Mabuchi rushes a change of clothes in to Miko and the situation is broken down. Since NANA found out the truth, Miko decided to reveal her sex herself in order to spare the band. Ren says that it was all NANA’s doing and Miko tries to protest this, but just can’t as it is the truth. Yuki then mentions what he overheard Ren saying about the “contract” with NANA being broken. Was Ren only dating NANA to keep Miko’s secret? Yuki has such brilliant insights. Ren isn’t happy that the cat is out of the bag and Miko is horrified to learn the reason behind their dating is really herself.
Ren then says that Miko is a part of A.N.JELL. She has been accepted by all the band members, so she needs to stick it out as a guy until the very end. Hearing this shocks Miko as she has always been such trouble to the members. Shu seconds this as does Yuki. This really touches Miko who is happy to be accepted. Mabuchi calls them the best and then in rushes Ando calling them the worst since Miko disappeared and Shu brought his girlfriend. He then threatens to feed Mabuchi to the fishes. The tension in the air is not relieved at all, however.
While this drama was unfolding, Sakuraba was back at Misuzawa’s. She is anxious to close the copyright issue before the twins’ locations are revealed. Misuzawa’s assistant insists that Sakuraba leave as Misuzawa is out. Sakuraba agrees reluctantly and then she sees the picture of her brother with the twins. This throws her for a loop. She then asks to use the restroom and finds Misuzawa lying unconscious. Sakuraba notices a scar on Misuzawa’s stomach and begins to wonder if she is the twins’ mother after all. Sakuraba decides since she already lied about the twins’ whereabouts, she can’t say anything know and decides to leave the house for a little while and hide out.
Back at A.N.JELL’s house, Yuki is moving Miko’s stuff out of Ren’s room since it isn’t proper for a guy and girl to live together in the same room. Ren is offended and Miko just hurries and follows Yuki’s lead leaving SHu and Ren alone. Shu looks at Ren and tells him that he will protect Miko as well now. Shu then leaves and Ren gets a surprising call. In Miko’s room is a note from her aunt saying that she will be away for awhile. Yuki sees this as well and says that works out even more and then tells her to hurry and finish moving. Ren has left when Miko collects the last of her things. She looks at A.N.JELL’s CDs on the wall and vows to work hard as a man until the end.
Ren goes to visit his mother and wonders why she isn’t in a hospital. Misuzawa says she refuses to go to a hospital as she has things she wants to do first. If Ren doesn’t rearrange the song for her, she would rather die. Oh geez. Melodramatic much? Thus Misuzawa forces Ren’s hand so that he will arrange the song for her. Misuzawa then says that she will tell Ren all about the composer and her love for him afterwards. Is this something the son she abandoned really wants to hear about anyways?
The annoyed Ren heads home only to find Miko in the kitchen. She says that she is fine, but it is obvious that she is having a Miko-crisis moment. She finally breaks down and tells Ren that she accidentally glued her fingers together when fixing a broken accessory. The annoyed Ren does help. He ices her hand and then takes a lead pencil and begins scraping the fingers apart as gentle as possible. Miko starts laughing as it tickles, but stops when Ren threatens to glue her mouth shut. Miko asked what happened and Ren tells her about being forced to arrange a song for someone that he doesn’t really want to and then says that her accident has taken his mind off of it. This makes Miko happy that the accident express delivery girl was able to help. Shu witnesses this and goes back upstairs quietly.
Miko’s fingers finally come free and Ren gives his ultra-bright, rare, pure-happiness smile. Miko, seeing this up close and personal, starts getting flustered. She quickly does the piggy nose which is guaranteed to annoy Ren. He asks what the buta-usagi is back – is she mocking him once again? Miko states that isn’t he case at all – doing that is healthy for you. Ren then picks up the glue and asks if he should glue her finger to her nose then. After he leaves, Miko says that she has already vowed to be a guy, so she must get her heart under control. Back in his room, Ren recalls hairpin getting broken as he looks at the pig-rabbit doll he made for Miko.
Later that night while Ren is taking a bath, he hears Miko’s scream. When he gets to the room, Shu is by Miko’s bed asking what was wrong. Miko points to the opposite side of the room where a giant cicada sits. Yuki joins them and asks what is up and the other two boys look at the wall. Yuki sees the bug and grabs it and takes it out of the room. Shu sits down next to Miko and says he is glad that is it – he was worried a burglar had climbed in through the window. Seeing this display of closeness annoys Ren who then takes out his anger on Miko for making them worry. Ren goes back to his room where he hears Shu tell Miko he will always run to protect her.
When Ren goes back into his room he tries counting sheep, but just can’t fall asleep as he recalls what Shu has done that night. He counts faster, but the memory keeps coming. Ren wonders if Shu likes Miko? The tired Ren goes to the studio the next day and sees Miko agreeing to meet Shu, which annoys him to no end. Meanwhile, Ando is having a meltdown. What is going on? First Ren was secretly dating NANA and now Shu has a girlfriend! Mabuchi says he had no idea Shu was dating as Mabuchi has to protect Miko, but Ando pinpoints that all the problems started upon Mio’s arrival. Uh-oh.
Ren rushes up to Miko and asks if she agreed to meet Shu somewhere. Miko says that she is meeting the girl Shu likes as thanks to Miko, she thinks Shu already has a girlfriend. This is definitely not what Ren expected. Miko then goes back into the practice room where she immediately goes over to Shu and they work on the new song. Ren recalls Shu embracing the crying Miko and wonders why she seems okay when she likes Shu? At this point Ren gets a call, but he ignores it because it is from NANA.
NANA is infuriated and wonders just why Ren would ignore her calls. Did she miss the part the other day when he said their contract was over since she basically reneged by forcing Miko into confessing? Yuki then says that maybe Ren likes someone else and that he is glad he has switched his feelings to Yuki. This makes NANA snap and she starts thinking again. It’s never good when she starts thinking.
Back at the practice room, Ren gets more and more annoyed when he sees Shu and Miko working so closely. Ren also keeps replaying what Shu has said. It looks like Ren is getting more and more suspicious about Shu’s girl that he likes. He also gets annoyed thinking that Miko has no pride as a girl. He tries to get Miko to work on the song with him, but Miko doesn’t want to as she still has a lot of work to do in learning it. Ren then gets angry for Miko’s disobedience and storms out. Yuki comments on his foul temper, but Shu has a knowing look. He knows just why Ren was getting angry. Shu then follows Ren out.
Meanwhile, Yuki is left alone with Miko and decides to feel her out about how she perceives the members of A.N.JELL. Yuki then brings up three types of guys: the brother, the friend, and the boyfriend. Yuki points out that with Shu’s personality, girls would perceive him as the perfect boyfriend. Miko thinks about it and declares Shu as more of the older brother type. This relieves Yuki who then asks about Ren. Of course Miko isn’t going to reveal her true feelings for Ren and just says that he is hard to place. Yuki agrees with this and then asks about himself. He is disappointed when Miko automatically classifies him as a friend to have fun with. But Yuki rallies by saying friendship develops into something more in certain cases. Shu goes up to Ren and tells him that he has a girl he likes. Ren says that’s a good thing isn’t it before walking away. Shu has basically confirmed to Ren that he likes Miko.
The day wears on and the time comes for Miko to meet Shu. Ren wonders if she has left yet while Shu waits for her arrival. He is all excited when the door opens, but is disappointed when it is just the waiter. Meanwhile, Ren seeks Miko out who is just leaving to Meet Shu. Ren tells her not to go, but Miko can’t do that as she promised Shu. She then goes to run off and Ren follows her. He yells at her for having no pride and going to meet the girl Shu likes when Miko herself likes Shu. This throws Miko for a loop. She tells him that isn’t it and then breaks down and yells about how Ren is blind and doesn’t understand her at all. This outburst surprises Ren. When Miko still insists on going, Ren finally grabs her and kisses her – shocking them both.
Immediately after the kiss is broken off, Ren is at a loss for words as is Miko. She quickly then does the piggy nose that Ren hates so much in hopes of calming herself down. Ren then runs away and wonders just what the heck happened. Why did he kiss her and just what was with her reaction? Meanwhile, Miko is in la-la land. She is on cloud nine to have been kissed by Ren. She then wonders if that means Ren likes her. Miko rushes off to find out.
NANA shows up to talk to Ren who is not interested in talking at all, but NANA won’t go away until her question is answered. Does Ren like Miko? Ren, not hesitating replies that he doesn’t like Miko at all. Only an idiot would confess their true feelings to NANA as she would then have even more leverage. NANA, knowing Miko was there and overheard everything, rubs salt into Miko’s wounds and Miko runs away crying [after Ren leaves of course].
Shu seeks out the absent Miko and asks if she forgot about him. His anger goes away when he sees the crying Miko. He walks over to her and they have a conversation about love. Miko wonders why it is painful and impossible and Shu states that he believes a real love is something that you treasure and is not easily seen. Yes, but since Shu never shares his feelings, he will never get the girl. Idiot. Miko decides then that she will cherish her feelings for Ren while keeping them to herself. Actually, her feelings for Ren can be quite obvious, but oh well. Miko then goes home determined to forget the kiss.
The next day Ren is out of sorts since it seems like the kiss didn’t effect Miko at all. But once his back is turned, Miko is doing the piggy nose once more as she recalls the kiss from the night before. She shakes herself out of her daydream and reminds herself that she is living as a guy and decided to forget the kiss. Their photo shoot with NANA then begins with A.N.JELL less than thrilled to be with NANA who is determined to hang on to Ren, literally. Also at the shoot is A.N.JELL’s personal stalkarazzi who hope to find Shu’s girlfriend.
NANA talks to RINA alone and wonders if she should be worried about Ren and Miko. RINA tells her there is nothing to worry about in that department as Miku likes Shu. This gives NANA an idea and she asks for RINA’s help. RINA takes Miko aside and redoes her makeup. When Miko opens her eyes her hair and makeup are in girl mode. RINA tells her its okay to be girly every now and then and gets Miko dressed up in a cute dress. RINA then goes off in search of Shu who is happy to see the girl Miko all dolled up. Needless to say, Ren is less than thrilled to see the cute Miko and NANA rubs it in that Miko must have wanted Shu to see her as a girl.
After Ren yells at her for doing that when she vowed to be a guy and storms off with NANA on his heels, Shu leaves the miserable Miko as well after asking her if it is really not okay to confess to Ren, which surprises Miko as she didn’t think anyone knew. A reporter sees Shu leave and goes to where he was and finds Miko who quickly covers her face and tries to run from the reporter. RINA comes in and manages to knock the reporter down and allow Miko to escape just before he snapped a picture of her. But, even without proof, it’s too late as the reporter wonders why the girl’s face seemed so familiar.
Ren is seething on the couch when Mabuchi shows up asking about which picture to use for the press. Ren doesn’t care and Mabuchi goes through the pictures himself. He pauses when he sees one of Miko making the piggy nose. He is surprised that she still does that. Ren asks what it is and Mabuchi tells Ren about the lie he told Miko in hopes of making sure Shu doesn’t fall for her. Things begin clicking in Ren’s mind. After Mabuchi leaves, Ren goes through the pictures. He notices that Miko is not looking at Shu while making the nose. He finds the companion picture and realizes that Miko was looking at him. More thinks click into place and Ren finally realizes that the star Miko was always talking about and the reason she always made the pig face in front of him was all because she liked him! Took him long enough.
Miko is sitting outside stargazing and berating herself for liking Ren.Then out comes Ren. Miko gets up and Ren notices the fixed hairpin that she had just put in her hair before he arrived. He asks her about it and Miko tells him about how she went back and picked up the pieces and then glued them back together [the reason why her fingers got glued together]. Ren then tells her he gets it now. He knows what Miko meant when she talked about the star she likes. Ren then tells her not to give up. She has his permission to keep liking him. Oh, and Misuzawa caresses the pictures of the twins and their dad and wonders when she can finally meet her beloved twins. End episode.
I really hate the whole permission thing. It pops up a lot in these dramas. I have to say that you don’t need anyone’s permission to like anyone else and these people “permitting” people to like them is just ridiculous. Other than that, great episode. I loved how Ren finally figured it all out. Oh, and I guess one more thing: The complete idiocy of the characters. Like Miko allowing herself to be tempted to dress as a girl when she had vowed to stick it out as long as possible, especially where there are lots of cameras present. And Shu who believes true love shouldn’t be easily seeable, but yet he tries to convince Miko to confess her feelings instead of keeping them silent like he has. Oy vey.
